Vocational Education

Vocational Education, now in the form of BTECs, has been delivered at Fleetwood Sports College since 1994 with an excellent rate of success.

Students in Year 10 currently study BTEC First qualifications in Science, Business, Performing Arts, Art & Design, Public Services, Health & Social and Sport. Some students are also studying the BTEC Skills for Working Life.

Tutors work very much as a team, and are enthusiastic about their teaching, teaching methods and their subjects. Student centred learning is a key aspect of the vocational lessons. We firmly believe that achievement can be greater than that expected, and that vocational subjects can widen the horizons of each student.

The classrooms are equipped with a large range of resources. The classroom environment is designed to encourage students to both share ideas and work independently. In addition to learning about their subject students learn how to organise and plan their studies.

Ofsted reports state that ' vocational education is a strength of the school' and 'The strength of vocational education lies in the support, encourage and high level of subject knowledge the teacher brings to the class…Standards are above expectations... For many students, progress is greater than their prior attainment would suggest…Vocational education makes a valuable contribution to the enrichment of the curriculumfor students of all levels of attainment.'
