Skills Curriculum Year 7 - The Skills

Within the ‘Concentration’ skill we aim to:

  • Develop the ability to focus on tasks, speakers and other sources for periods of time without being distracted.
  • Develop the ability to listen, understand, retain and recall information.
  • Develop the ability to settle quickly in lessons and be in the correct frame of mind for learning.

Within the ‘Creative Thinking and Enterprise’ skill we aim to:

  •  Develop the ability to think and work more independently.
  • Promote creative thinking and original ways of looking at problems and tasks.
  • Promote a positive attitude to solving problems and challenges.


Within the ‘Empathy’ skill we aim to:

  • Develop the ability to imagine how others will feel in certain situations.
  • Develop the ability to place yourself in ‘someone else’s shoes’.
  • Encourage students to be more understanding and compassionate members of society.


Within the ‘Presentation and Communication’ skill we aim to:

  • Develop a range of skills which allow students to present their work in exciting and interesting ways.
  • Promote confidence and self-belief.
  •  Develop the ability to communicate clearly using a variety of channels including visually and orally.


Within the ‘Working with Others’ skill we aim to:

  •  Develop strategies for effective teamwork, including how to adopt different roles within a group.
  •  Develop leadership skills.
  •  Develop the ability to negotiate, discuss and cooperate.


Within the ‘Reflective Learning’ skill we aim to:

  • Establish the good practice of analysing and evaluating work.
  • Encourage students to think about their strengths, weaknesses and ways they can improve.
  •  Allow students to work in different ways so they can explore which ways work best for them.
