Performing Arts
Drama
The drama component of Performing Arts is studied from KS3 to GCSE and is also part of Btec Performing Arts. Along with acting component, courses also include the study of lighting, sound, make up, costumes and all aspects of the theatre. A wide range of extra curricular activities, working in co-operation with the other departments are provided, including an annual pantomime or musical production, Talent Spotters and Showcase Performances which display the talents of students throughout the school. Theatre visits are organised regularly and students are encouraged to join these educational visits. From West End Theatres to supporting local productions and festivals along the Fylde Coast, our aim is to introduce both glossy performances and those by amateur dramatic societies.
Music
Music is taught as a separate subject within the KS3 curriculum. At KS4 it can also be studied as a GCSE and as a component of Btec Performing Arts. A variety of college bands, choirs and ensembles give students, whatever their level of expertise, opportunities to perform and create music. Our music department is developing rapidly with a growing brass band section. We are now also equipped with 6 full Rock Band kits to encourage popular music. Peripatetic tutors visit the college to teach individually and in small groups on a wide range of instruments. For those interested in the music industry, with have extensive recording and sound equipment to develop sequencing and recording. It is also an opportunity for these students to join our 'Crew' team of technicians, which covers all aspects of stage management.
Dance
Dance is currently taught to all KS3 students at GCSE level and also forms an integral part of the choice offered in Performing Arts at KS4. The college is privileged to have a recently built dance studio with it's use extending out to the community. Visits from professional dance academies take full day master classes, from Ballet through to Street and Break Dancing. All are encouraged to partake. Dance Clubs and Cheerleading run by staff and specialist tutors alike make this dance studio a very popular place to be.
Opportunities within college productions and talent shows have further raised the profile of dance within the College, for boys and girls making Btec Performing Arts a very popular option at KS4.
With a range of opportunities offered on the curriculum and in extra - curricular activies, we guarantee your Performing Arts experience will introduce you to a world to enrich your student life and beyond.
