French Trip - February 2010On the 11th February, we all met very early (at 5 am!!) on the school park. It was very cold and we got to Berck-sur-Mer, in France at 10 pm as the motorway was closed because of the snow. After arriving at the hotel we had a very nice meal and then went to bed. On Friday morning, we went to the chocolate factory where we learnt where chocolate comes from and how it was made. It was very interesting. After the visit we tasted the chocolate and bought some chocolate to bring back with us. Then we went to the bakery where we looked at the wood oven. The baker explained how to make the dough for the baguettes and we had a go at making a croissant! In the afternoon we went to the cheese farm. The lady explained how the cheese was made and we visited the cellar where the cheese is stored to mature. The smell was really strong! We also had a tasting session though a lot of people did not want to try the cheese because of the smell but it tasted really nice. We also tried yoghurt that the farm produces and it was delicious! On our way back, we went to a hypermarket where we did some shopping. The next day we went to the village of St Joseph. St Joseph is a village museum, it is a reconstruction of a village in the early 1900's. We went into the shops, pub, windmill, house, church and school. Everybody was really interested and asking a lot of questions. In the evening, after a meal we went to the "salle des fetes" and had a party for the last night of our trip. All the girls were dressed up and everybody had a good time. On the last day, we had some time before setting of to Calais so we went to the beach. The weather was very nice so the boys had a game of football while the girls had a nice time relaxing and gossiping on the sand. Everybody had a very good time and I am looking forward to going to Berck sur Mer again next year. Miss Cloerec |
