The Art department achieve excellent results at Key stage 3 and 4.
Over the past 5 years, pupils on average scored well above the national average at key stage 3 and 4 , over 90% of pupils taking Art at key stage 4 achieved A*-C grades.
Art club
Pupils are given the opportunity to attend art club at lunchtime and after school.
Regular trip are organised to visit art galleries in Liverpool, Manchester, Blackpool, and Lancaster.
Key stage 3
Pupils at Key stage 3 follow a three year course designed to encourage them to develop key skills such as independent research, developing ideas, working with others, reflective learning. Pupils complete projects that use the local landscape as a theme developing images in the style of artists that are then printed onto wall hangings and recycled carrier bags. They also complete animation projects working together as a production company. They study historical and contemporary artists. The department sets research projects where pupils complete `show and tell` presentations to the class. Cross circular links are strong and pupils enjoy working on links with Maths (Fibonacci numbers), Languages and Cultural links making impressive African masks for display around school.
Key stage 4
Pupils can choose from Art and Design Btec certificate/ entry level GCSE/
Btec Diploma or, GCSE/AS/A level Art depending upon their ability and interests.
We cover both Art history and practical portfolio production using Photography, Digital art, Glass wear, ceramics, sculpture, printing, fabric and fashion design, as well as traditional fine art skills of drawing and painting.
Community Links
The Art department has strong links with local artists and encourages them to visit and work in our Art department.

A project that involved 9 schools creating clay tiles for the community of Fleetwood They were made at our art department before being erected on a park near the market.

Exhibitions
The Art department enhances the school environment by displaying pupil’s artwork all around the school building.
Art work is displayed at local Cinemas, shops and Chatsworth library has a regularly updated display of work for the local residents to enjoy.
Art is also displayed at the Seaside’s Art exhibition every year; see the gallery images for this year’s display.
Students have displayed work at the National student’s exhibition at Trafalgar square London, summer show, which represents the best work in the country.
We have strong links with Blackpool Sixth Form Schools Art department and take pupils on regular Art workshops. Displaying some of our students work alongside their student’s at their end of year exhibition.
